Chindit Badge Modern version?
1 Attachment(s)
I have been asked by a member of the Military Heraldry Society if I can establish who wears/wore the badges on the scan. The larger one came off a shirt.
That on the hat is 4cmx3.5cm, that from the shirt 6.5cmx6cm. The camouflage pattern may be a clue to those who know about such things. Is there a connection with the Chindit badge authorised in 2015 for the British Army's 77 Brigade? See link below for details; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/77th_B...ted_Kingdom%29 Jon |
More likely to be Chindit Coy of 2 Lancs.

Jon,
I suggest that it is a company flash for C (Chindit) Company 2nd Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. Tim |
Beaten to it by Marc - but I typed it out in full !!!
Camouflage is MTP PCS CU (Multi Terrain Pattern Personal Clothing System Combat Uniform) Tim |
Marc,
Thank you. Jon |
Chindit
Going off at a tanget looking at Jon's link
'In July 2015 and October 2015, the four individual units above were reshaped and formed the new five Columns of 77th Brigade.[17] No.1 Column - Planning support focusing on the behavioural analysis of actors, audiences and adversaries No.2 Column - Provides reachback support to deployed operations No.3 Column - Provides deployable specialists to other parts of the Armed Forces and other Government organisations No.4 Column - Provides professional specialists in Security Capacity Building No.5 Column - Media operations and Civil Affairs No.7 Column - The Engineer and Logistic Staff Corps - A specialist Army Reserve unit providing engineering, logistics and communication consultancy to both the MoD and across government agencies. (Structure formed in October 2015) There is no No.6 Column for historical reasons.' What is the reason for no 6 Column, yet they are prepared to have a fifth Column working amongst them! Stephen. |
Am I being old-fashioned or is a lot of that management gobbledegook?
Jon |
The following from https://www.chinditslongcloth1943.com/did-you-know.html sheds light on Column 6.
By Christmas 1942 the ill-fated men of Column 6 numbered just 45. Wingate ordered the unit to be disbanded and the remaining men distributed amongst the other British Columns. The men of Column 6 had suffered numerous unfortunate incidents during training, these included, drownings, landslide, fire-arm accidents and several outbreaks of malaria and dysentery Jon |
"Am I being old-fashioned or is a lot of that management gobbledegook?"
No, Jon, that is a a specialized and precise form of techncal language meant to misinform and obscure. AKA 'jargon'. Goobledegook is the civilian version. ;) |

Is C (Chindit) Company 2nd Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment the only unit which carries on the Chindit tradition/lineage?
