Chaps i'm after opinions on these cloaks chains please. On the left is A HAC Officers 1848 pattern Shako Badge, i got the image off Trident Arms site. On the right are the cloak chains. What do you think.

The flames are different on the chained fusils.

The cloak chains are worn down on those high points.

I think Andy is asking that question..... are all the fusils the same. I have just pointed out a difference. |
Ta, I was thinking he was just asking for opinions as to whether comparison of the design of the grenades could indicate that the cloak fasteners are HAC (or HAC amongst others).
An exact die match would be a step closer though not definitive. |

Andy, I have always found such matters of great interest just like you. Time has taught me to be more sanguine and one thing I have learned is to not underestimate the dynamic preferred by the (clothing) authorities, who were essentially what we would call 'bean counters', to make maximum use of identical dies for different units. As an example of this the more generic (i.e. not officer pattern) grenade devices for flank companies in infantry battalions, seem to have been used for many other units using the grenade device, such as fusilier regiments, artillery (including HAC) and Grenadier Guards. I am not saying that this is definitely the case here, but I would caution everyone to keep this fundamental fact in mind.

I agree with you Toby. The badge or device I've shown last has been used by the Bengal Engineers also.
