Recent Armored and Cavalry pieces.
Picked up a group of badges this weekend in Ohio. Will post some of the more interesting items. After weeding through the mandatory allotment of duffers always found in groups here in the U.S. , I was still left with some better pieces.
A nice Sterling hallmarked motto. it appears to be R&W however part of the R is missing, have not looked up the date of the mark. Measures 40 x 50. Is this a badge that would be worth having the pin repaired or just leave be? Sterling hallmarked "Recon". Firmin, it's size 31 x 31 would indicate a collar to me. enjoy, comments always welcome. Reconnaissance Corps cap badges are circa 39 x 40 mms, confirming yours is a (very nice) collar badge. I believe your other badge is called a 'Chad'.
Rgds, Thomas. |
Hi Thomas they called them Chadds during WWII after the comic character this would be generally referred to as an Arm motto

Hello Mac, Thomas and Andy, thank you for looking in and your input. How would the Motto have been worn?
I just noticed that the loops on the Recon collar appear to be hallmarked also. Best Jack |
Arm Motto
Evening Jack
The Arm motto would have originally had loops to the rear and would have been worn on the tapes for Sgt or S/ Sgt and bellow the crown for a warrant. Some times they were pin broached as some NCO,S found that easier way of moving them from uniform to uniform. Or they would be worn as a sweethearts Broach. Best Mac |

I like that you noticed the bone on the upper left..... like the RSM Woodford Chadd in L&D (I have the same in my collection) .... different ribbon ends though. |
Well done Jack.... keep digging away US side :D

Arm Motto
Yes but this Arm Motto seems to be closer to the firmin which are not webbed however like you my later ones based on Bent and parker are webbed my silver and my white metal are both webbed on the left. you have highlighted the web between the bones I am referring to the Webb between the bone and the skull. The teeth and skull are also different to yours Griff
