Mutilated Black Watch badge

I found this badge in a lot many years ago. It seems to be a Black Watch cap badge but with some parts missing, apparently carefully cut.
For what purpose ? Thank you

Laurent

I would suggest that its for wear on a lapel in civilian clothes. Such a thing was common during and post WW1. A full sized badge would be too big.

The practice of cutting down the star badges and sending them home for their wives and sweethearts started during the Boer War, they were also worn unofficially on the slouch hat at that time.
Here is my Victorian example which has been silver plated.
