The badge is to the 4th Pioneer Battalion, CEF.

Perhaps his name was Ranger?

Hi Jo

There is an Capt Alexander Reid Granger, a Paymaster with No 2 Tunneling Coy, who was MiD.

Haven't found him with an MBE yet though. The ribbon on his breast does not look like either type of MBE (Mil).

regards
Darrell

It looks like this officer might be Captain Albert Raymond Auger of the 4th Overseas Pioneer Battalion (among others) who was awarded a British Empire Medal http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...dNumber=38659& or something else. His file is somewhat confusing on the exact nature of this award - you can check for yourself.

His file is located here: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...IdNumber=17292

Thanks to Tighe McManus of the Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group.
