I have posted this this morning in unknown section just had some messages could this be

GHQ Liasion Regiment Phantom It is clearly handmade and in the tradition of other WW 2 Special forces insignia.

I am a little out of depth with this I anticipate this may get the heart rate rising

It could possibly be, but I've never seen anything like it. Unlikely to be official. The Phantom 'P' has very pronounced serifs and came in a square borderless background, so if this is supposed to represent them it is a very poor job.

Placing another view on line it shows the depth of the badge and how it appears to be carved out. Then layer of paint very carefully applied.

We are aware No 2 Commando made their own cap badges from spoons etc
This possibly is contemporary to that period and Practice.

I picked this and others in the link from a Antique shop that just had a selection of WW 2 period items of insignia bought in, general stuff Marines cap and collars South / North Staffs KSLI RA some bakerlite and badges I purchased.

It is scratch hand made as can be seen and am starting to get a Warm Fuzzy feeling about it. It size would work as a cap badge but would have spun around with the Lapel type fitting.

Looking forward to further input

It looks like a lapel badge as worn by old comrades association. Never seen one like yours. JB

With respect Thomas agreed that it possibly is! However he had not seen another like it

It is hand crafted and am sure a number of SF collectors on the forum are scouring photographs available.as am I.

Probably veterans badge or Mufti period piece hours of work has gone in to makeing this item and came with from a good WW 2 context.

I have a feeling this post will continue to be viewed for some time.

Attached another view of the back the fixing lies just north of centre so would hang correctly.

The unit's formation badge was very distinctive. Logically you would expect any veteran association badge to resemble that reasonably accurately no? Your badge doesn't so I don't think it has anything to do with Phantom. Also, I was fortunate to know a Phantom veteran very well. He was a member of the SAS veterans association and had an SAS membership book and numbered badge. He didn't have the Phantom equivalent which makes me wonder if they even had a Regimental Association? Perhaps Asher Pirt can chime in as I believe he is a member here?

I notice in your album that your No2 Commando silver sweet heart badge the emblem of 2 Commando is within a circle,

This is not the true shape of Regimentaly worn insignia

Touch off maker adaptation the same could be said the same for my badge do you not think

Really sorry that it has taken so long to reply. I am interested in Phantom and some associated units so do not always visit this website. Apologies. I have not come across any Veterans wearing a pin badge. Or any such device. I would have thought it would be better quality and closer to an actual badge. This pin badge is rather like the Indian reproduction badge of Phantom badges which are nothing like the original.

Do you have any images of the Indian made badges of phantom I have not seen any!

Item came in with a good selection of WW2 badges including Para badge at the top aprivate small collection sold to a Antique shop I am convinced badge is period hand made not modern made reproduction.
