Unknown Military Button...

Hello,

I wondered if you might be able to identify a button I found, it was in with a few railway buttons but I've been told it is doubtful it's rail related.

I've attached a couple of photos, but I'll also describe.

It features what I think might be a QC Victorian crown. Underneath it has three symbols all lined up, Tudor Rose, bull coming out the top of another crown, portcullis.

It is made by Firmin and Sons London.

Any help would be great.

Unfortunately it has lost it's eyelet to the back, but still a nice looking button.

Any help would be great :)

Nick

Hello Nick

It is not a military button but a livery button as worn by some household servants of the landed gentry, titled classes and so on.

Not my speciality but someone may know the family to which it relates.

You could try searching this excellent site https://sites.google.com/site/liverybuttonsidentified but there are many thousands of these buttons and identification can sometimes be very difficult.

Roger

Hello Nick

Just had a look at the livery buttons site and your button would appear to be for Baron Braybrooke, Audley End, Essex (Neville family). Not so difficult after all!

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the link to that great button identification site. I have a small collection of military buttons, which usually tell you what they are. I also have a selection of unidentified buttons , which I now see are livery buttons. This opens another avenue of interst . Much appreciated.
Regards
Mike

Hello all

Just out of interest, a similar button, if not the same one, is now for sale on ebay!

Roger
