2nd Fife & Forfar Yeomanry 1945
 

Hi Guys!

I am new here and try this thread since I have not really been able to establish what 2nd F&FY had as patches on their battle dress in WWII.

So, black beret with Ancient Hunting MacIntosh cloth and Thane of Fife
(understand 2nd did Not have the Thane on collar? 1st had!).

Guess the Charging Bull on the sleeves...or not?

But what shoulder title? Again, 1st seemed to have used brass ones on the eupaulettes...and also the Thane on the sleeve? but did the 2nd as well?

Hmm? Can anyone educate me? It seems on all the pictures (of the few there are) I can never see what is on the sleeves of the Battle Dress Jackets!

I just returned from Fife and failed to get info from Yeomanry House in Cupar.

Indeed, a picture of a battle dress would be great!

here is a picture I found. Again, hard to tell if there is, and in the affirmative, what kind of shoulder title! Also, what is the patch under the Arm of Service Strip? It must be unique to the 2nd F&F Y and looks Scottish!

UPDATE

below the Arm of Service stripe, there is a Regimental Arm Patch.
An upright Saltire with red and yellow bars on a blue background.
Possibly the Regimental colours as on the Stable belt.

Some seem to have the Royal Armoured Corps shoulder title, but I do not see it in all pictures. Could someone confirm this as standard, or could there have been variances?

You are correct that the 2nd Regiment didn't wear collar dogs or the brass Y/FIFE&FORFAR shoulder titles on battledress. The photos below show the standard badge layout for the 1943-44 period and an example of the Regimental flash. The flash was also painted on helmets. The Regimental arm flash wasn't always worn and I think towards the end of 1944 the ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS cloth titles were phased out.
The 2nd suffered a lot of casualties during the Normandy breakout and beyond so making sure replacements had the full complement of arm badges probably wasn't a priority.

Photos of the 2nd F&FY Recce and AA Troops at Aldershot in 1944 just prior to D-Day. The arm badges can just about be made out.
