Thanks for posting those items Joe. It certainly shows us all the harsh and indeed brutal aspects of service life in 'the old days'. The fact that so many young men joined up to 'escape' their circumstances and ended up in worse circumstances is sad but reality. There but for the Grace of God.

And only 10 minutes ago I was sitting with my mother discussing her father's RN service as an immediate post WWI Boy Sailor through WWII.
