Hi, I submitted this many years ago and no one seemed to know what it was, other than it may have been a shooting badge? Maybe better luck this time round, thanks in advance Mike

Why was this deemed a shooting badge?

It is typical of a County awarded shooting prize badge for competitors from the RVC in County National Rifle Associations the best of which went on to shoot in the Nationals at Wimbledon.
I have plenty of Lancashire ones, totally different format, but like this, devoid of any obvious shooting imagary such as crossed rifles etc. Many Counties produced their own badges for competitors and the study of old Cabinet Photos and CDV's ov RVC and Volunteer Bn's show soldiers with 20 or 30 bullion shooting prize badges plastered up their left sleeve and chest. |
Hi Simon, I think that nails it, thanks for the images. Have a great Xmas and thanks again Mike
