A.I.F. Returned From Active Service
 

Hi all, not often been to this portion of the Forum, have an Australian Returned from Active Service, badge numbered 250210 can anyone throw some light onto it please?
It is made by Amor of Sidney and appears to have been Gilded?

Have we a date for this badge?

And the Service number? Has anyone a roll for the recipients name?

All returned diggers were issued with this badge in brass, the Navy had a different badge with an anchor, a rubber stamp was placed on the back of the Discharge Certificate and the number was written onto the stamp in ink, the same occurred for the larger silver British badge. I have the discharge certificate for a family member and his medals and both the Aussie and the British badges and the number of each badge was written on its rubber stamp on the back of the discharge Certificate.

I hope that this helps, however I cant help with identifying the recipient.

I think I've found your guy, see attached: The document is noted as:

"List of brass discharge badges issued to discharged members of the Australian Imp. Force."

It's not shown on this page, but it is "250210" they just left off the "250" on this page.

PS the document is dated 11 Feb 1921, but I imagine the badge was made well before this.

Tim absolutely brilliant! Amazing how quick this was and the fact it is getting on to 100 years! The fact his surname is O, Hara suggests quite strongly he was Irish which is great! Being Northern Irish myself, will update another thread, many thanks for this! Billy

seems he was born in Australia, but I suspect off you dug deeper, you may find his family came out from Ireland during the late 1800's. I think 20% odd of Australians' were of Irish decent in those days.
