Crowns and Pips
Here is an older collection of metal rank put together for display. Picked this up over the weekend. It was arranged nicely and could not walk away from it. Is there anything interesting in the group that can be seen?

Hello Jack
Interesting to see that the display is headed "Royal Army". Here in the UK we have a Royal Navy and Royal Air Force but we have never had (as far as I know!) a Royal Army! "British Army" would, I think, have been a more appropriate title. It reminds me of some of the early plastic tank kits made by the Japanese firms of Tamiya and others. They often referred to the "Royal Army" Centurion Tank and so on! A very nice collection of insignia though! Regards Roger |
Good Evening Roger,
It was an American's attempt at sounding proper and correct. When in doubt call it Royal. Thanks for the input. Best Jack |
Mixes the Cap Badges & Rank Insignia of Generals, and Gargets a little, but a interesting board none the less.

Can someone tell me if there is a significance to the Lt Colonel Rank being in Silver metal as opposed to Bright Brass like the others. Also what period is the Ireland Lt. Pip from and or what units might have worn this type pip?
Thanks jack http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0ba701e8.jpg http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps986f5cd8.jpg |
Irish,
nice display but some of your Rank Stars appear to be upside-down, the Maj Gen for example! Andy |
Thanks Andy, the original owner had put this together.

Silver rank insignia for mess dress or full dress I think, the former more likely. Irish Guards rank star, though not sure what order of dress or date for it. |
Isnt the rank star RUC?

Re Post #6 - As far as I can remember this style of rank star was worn by the RUC in Black on a red felt backing, and is still used by the PSNI in Silver with no backing.

Thanks for the correction, I'll get my coat.

I think both the pip and crown are police.
The pip is probaly RIC, pre-RUC and the star any UK Police force. regards |
Thanks to everyone for their input.
