4th Cavalry Regiment hat and collar badges

4th Cavalry Regiment hat and collar badges.

The 4th Cavalry Regiment was an APC regiment based at Enoggera Barracks, Brisbane. It was raised on 11th October 1971 and was amalgamated with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment to form the 3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment in 1981.

The hat badge is made by AJ Parkes, Brisbane and is seen with both lugs and pin back versions. I believe reproductions also exist of this badge.

Just an update about these badges....

The regiment was formed in 1971 and from what I can tell, wore the corps RAAC hat badge until around 1978 when all members were officially issued the bullion beret badge (see attached picture). They could also privately purchase extra bullion badges to be worn on bush berets.

The metal badge was issued in 1980 but was only worn until 1981.

After amalgamation with 3CAV in 1981, the 3CAV hat badge was worn with the 4CAV collars.

Here's a couple of proposed designs for the 4CAV hat badge.

These were never made into badges.

Hi Mick, were the private purchase bullion badges better quality than the issue badge? thanks in advance Mike

Hi Mike,

The bullion badge is the same for both. They were only issued one I believe and had to private purchase any extra ones.

I think the issue metal badge (made in Australia) is also of better quality than the cloth bullion badge (made in Pakistan).

The regiment had the bullion badge issued initially and then issued the metal badge.
