LDSH and PPCLI sweetheart pins

I recently picked up a couple of nice sweetheart pins, the LDSH is dated to the 1920-30's from the hallmark. The PPCLI is of course a CEF shoulder title converted to a sweetheart, nice date of 1915 on the back.

Happy new year everyone.

Nice LdSH pin Mike.
The PPCLI title may be a conversion for wear and not to a sweetheart. The lugs the shoulder bars made a mess of the uniform. Many were converted to pin back to save the tunic. The PPCLI title is attributed to one of the reinforcement draughts or for officers. Other ranks on the strength of the PPCLI battalion wore the embroidered titles.

Hi mike
The LSH sweetheart is stamped STERLING and JWT for J W TIPTAFT. it has NO hallmark. The JWT makes it WW1 vintage. Nice sweethearts.
All the best

Bill- The pin lays very flat on the back of the title, it would not fit properly on a wool tunic if used in that manner. It would only lay flat on thin fabric.

Dan - Thanks for the update, I was going by the maker mark, on a makers mark forum they stated that this mark for JWT was from the 1920-s to 1930's.

Hi Mike, yes that would likely be correct on the officers' service dress tunics. Their material was much finer.

Hey all. Just saw this thread and figured I would share what I have. I have a matching Shoulder Flash as to Tanker Mike, minus the maker mark on the back. And also I have a PPCLI Sweetheart pin. Marked "Sterling" on the back. Missing this little pin on the back of it unfortunately, but in decent shape over all!

Enjoy.
