An explanation . . !

I saw this on ebay and thought forum members should have the benefit of this explanation.

*Re-strikes are additional runs of badges often from the original manufactures over and above the requirements of outfitters or the regiment - not copies made by others, often outside the UK.

Now you all know . . !

Sounds like someone trying to validate all the restrikes they are or are intending to sell

Rob,
Could you PM Andy P with that info. I don't think he knows that:).

What's wrong with that statement? Apart from the outside of the UK part perhaps?

IMHO, folks on the forum use the terms below interchangeably when they all have different meanings.
  1. Restrike - a repeat run of pressings of the badge, from the original die
  2. Copy/Fake - A badge whereby the die has been copied. Differences between this and original variants of the genuine badge.
  3. Fantasy badge - the badge never ixisted and this badge is probably an amalgam of other badges.

cheers,

Andy C

Andy,
I never use the term "Restrike" as 99% of times, items refered to as such, fall in to one of your other two categories!

And not all copies are fakes.

Sonofacqms 13-05-14 05:15 PM

Fakes

Which copies are not fakes?

Rob

Rob, I have some very nice 'theatre made' badges that I suppose are 'copies' - but I certainly regard them as "genuine". J

Reg Harvey used to say" there is an argument that sealed pattern badges are the only genuine ones and all others are copies "

He was a dealer ( and member of Crown Imperial ) who used to sell items on commission for customers ( Harveys List ). The list was later taken over by Roy Wilson until he sadly died and I am not sure if in fact it is still going as it was eventually taken over by a gentleman from York.

At least one well known dealer used to a acquire a lot of his new stock from Harveys List.
