Bihar Light Horse

Hi Gents,

I just wanted to share my latest arrival, a Bihar Light Horse cap badge. I have seen a few of these badges but this example caught my eye. The detail in the boars features seems of a lot higher quality that those examples I have seen previously, so aside from it being a nice example, perhaps indicates it's an early badge (?). It has a poorly repaired and rather messy lug but the nice frontal rendition more than makes up for it.

Now if only I can find a HM silver example.....anyone?

Enjoy!

Cheerio,

Roy

Beautiful detail. (My boar is plain Vanilla) BLH - Indigo planters.

Many good images of IA Vol / Aux Forces on the Forum.
The otherwise excellent books on these (about 600) units
by Harfield; Kempton have just about a dozen insignia pics.

Perhaps Bosley + Chapple + Forum could stack up if images
can be bought and put together ?

Lovely badge,
I have a similar one with very good detailing, but yours is very nicely toned. It's a very nice one.

And yes, one HM silver badge for me too!

I also have a desk ornament with the BLH boar..

Just checked,
In my example the boar's long tusk in curved outward and there is a little tusk curved inward, ...mine is clean new-looking white metal and the lugs have been reattached...but the detailing is pretty good..just wondering if it might be a repro...or if its from a different manufacturer...just the kind of thing that dampens my enthusiasm for the hobby. have fake BLH badges been noted???? .I know the fakers are now getting pretty good at thier job.

Your is the one which was once with artic medals, I think...wish I had picked it up..it's a very nice badge

My table mascot has one big tusk curved inward and a smaller one outward...

Will post photos later..

PS: just checked on the forum..and web images..there are quite a few examples, tusks outward, inward, tail up or down..so shuold be ok..I would also like a BLH button!

Hi Khyber,

Yes mine was from Mike at Arctic. I had mulled over it for a very long time, the repaired lug put me off but now I have it, I couldn't be happier.

I have also seen your dest ornament, now that is a stunning piece for sure.

As mentioned I have seen a handful of these badges and noted that my example has a lot more detail than most. You can really see the definition (amongst other details) in the muscles etc. I don't know of any fakes but just suspect this may be an earlier/better quality example. But that's just a guess.

Cheerio,

Roy.

The earlier (authentic) version. The boar has his tail down unlike ver02. with the tail up.
(a) Tail Boar carry of: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-Pr...p2056016.l4276
(b) History BLH of with later insignia, motto: http://valmayukuk.tripod.com/id42.html
(c) There is a nice BLH pig sticking cup with boar tusks at the NAM.

Hi Pinfrin,

Thank you for the extra details and link to the history, very interesting.

I had noticed differences in regards tail up/down but did not know the significance, so thanks again for sharing that.

If anyone has further examples to share, it would be nice to compare and share, as these badges seem rather thin on the ground, so any examples we can all learn from would be a good thing.

Here is a another image of my example, hopefully a little larger to show some more detail.

Also a good detail pointed out by Khyber regarding the direction of the tusks, a detail I had not noticed. As you can see both mine are pointing in the same direction. Not sure what the reasoning is for this but an interesting detail to look out for.

Cheerio,

Roy
